Depression from a TCM Perspective
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views depression and emotional imbalances as connected to disturbances in Qi (vital life energy that flows through the body) and functioning of internal organs.
Different organs are believed to be involved in regulating different emotions.
Weakened functioning of organs can impact our emotional health and potentially contribute to symptoms of depression.
Vice versa, excessive worry, stress, sadness or any excessive emotions can also harm the functioning of internal organs and cause blockages in Qi energy.
The following are examples of some TCM imbalances that are commonly associated with depression.
