1. Mothers as primary caregiver and protector
From the inception of the child in womb, mothers provide the nourishment and protection needed for the child. Even after the child is born, mothers continue to provide the necessary care and protection needed. As the child grows up, mothers are there to provide physical and emotional support and hence, the child learns to rely on and trust mothers early on in life. This assurance of safety and protection then gives the child the freedom to explore and even as adults, they may turn to their mothers for comfort when they are upset.
2. Mothers as teachers of life lessons and disciplinarian
Mothers are often the ones to impart intelligence, wisdom, values and guidance to the child, setting the foundations for the development of the child’s character. They are also the ones who discipline and correct misbehaviours. These values and life lessons are often carried into adulthood, influencing our behaviours, teaching us how to navigate through life challenges and even relationships, even if we may disagree with our mothers from time to time.
3. Mothers as role models
As the saying goes, “monkey see monkey do”, it is no secret that children model the behaviours of the adult figures in their lives, primarily mothers with whom they spend the longest time with. Mothers serve as role models for their children as their children witness their mothers’ selflessness in making sacrifices for the family. These encourage the children to develop similar positive behaviours and also inspire and motivate them to become better versions of themselves.
